Line Producer

I have spent over 20 years in the field of line producing, and the concept of 360GREEN truly wins my heart. It’s more than just a buzzword, it’s a practical and direct solution that can be implemented in the industry. As a professional who has been a part of numerous productions and has seen the waste and environmental impact. I understand the need to reduce our carbon footprint, and 360GREEN offers a great starting point.

It’s not just about talking the talk; it’s about walking the walk. And with 360GREEN, you’re not just talking about eco-friendliness, but taking actionable steps to minimize the impact on our environment. The concept offers a comprehensive approach that encompasses every aspect of the production process, from pre-production to post-production, making it one of the most practical solutions that can be implemented.

As a line producer, I have seen firsthand the difference that incorporating eco-friendly practices can make. And with 360GREEN, these practices become even more accessible and achievable. It’s time we step up and take the responsibility of minimizing our environmental impact, and I firmly believe that 360GREEN offers a viable solution.

I know the film and TV industry is one of the most energy-intensive in the world. Film and TV sets also generate a lot of waste. So not only do we have to change the film industry’s energy consumption and reduce its carbon footprint, we should try and work in a sustainable way in every department, from its location selection to its catering. It will not always be easy to achieve, but we have no other choice than to make our film sets more eco-friendly. 360GREEN can help us with this transition.

For example, in catering, we can use reusable tableware, personal cups, and water bottles instead of PET bottles. All single-use plastic must go. We can make the craft table and lunch vegetarian. Transportation is a major source of pollution. We have to drive fewer kilometers. We can carpool, have drivers with electric cars or we can stay in a hotel nearby. We can reduce our paper consumption and switch to a digital paper trail. Renewable energy sources such as solar panels instead of conventional diesel generators make a great difference. Overall we can rent single-use items rather than purchase them.

From my experience Belgian film sets cast and crew are already trying hard to change their mindset and working habits. Together with 360GREEN, we can take it to the next level. It is important for our children and grandchildren that we change our ways of working, the sooner the better. I know that many people in our industry care. Let’s take action and just do it.

Sustainable activities feel like a burden when we don’t know how to apply solutions to different sectors. The Film industry has been evolving in the past years, tackling the different pillars of sustainability, including social inclusion as well as gender equality. We have seen how even the diet has been a controversial ongoing discussion in the big awards events.

As EU Climate Pact Ambassador, I have made different sectors and communities aware of their climate Action responsibilities, including the Aviation and Energy sectors. Keeping in mind that the focus of the overall Sustainable Development Goals and Aims of the Green Deal is a sustainable world by 2030-2050.

The Film industry seems like it is just an unnecessary entertainment activity. But the preservation of art is also part of our sustainable goals because it promotes culture and tradition. When we have such an industry to create a visual story on some historical event or when this industry shows us how amazing imagination can fly and how much humanity is involved in the course of storytelling. I strongly believe that it’s correct to find ways to preserve such an industry and support the right transition pathways.

Everything is doable by providing the right recommendations for activities and solutions and having the right partners. The film industry’s work is important for society, education, and job creation. Having a passion for film productions and their developments myself that usually happen with big sets of constructions, energy consumption, and lots of waste management, there is more to do that can eventually be shared across different sectors in ongoing activities. Creating the right impact for SDG17 (Partnership for the goals) reminds us that we all need each other and remember that every day.
